Microsoft Copilot Super App: What Home, Code and Autopilot Actually Do
Who can use it today?
Not everyone. Home and Code are rolling out first through Microsoft's Frontier early access program, and Autopilot is still in private preview with no general release date. If you only use free Copilot Chat, you will not see most of this yet.
On September 25, 2026, Microsoft announced a reworked Copilot built around three parts: Home, Code and Autopilot. Press coverage has been calling it a "super app" because it tries to put chat, Office apps, app building and an always-on agent in one place. Here is a plain breakdown of what is in it, what it costs and what is still not available.
What is in the new Copilot app?
Home
Home combines Chat and Cowork, Microsoft's task running agent. It also lets you ask Copilot to create or edit Word documents, Excel spreadsheets and PowerPoint presentations directly. A feature called Today, which summarizes email, calendar, Teams activity and tasks, is planned for private preview starting in October 2026.
Code
Code lets people build apps, trackers, dashboards and automations by describing them in plain language. It uses GitHub Copilot technology and runs in sandboxed environments inside Microsoft 365. Tom's Hardware adds that it uses Microsoft's Managed Runtime for enterprise hosting.
Autopilot
Autopilot is a cloud-hosted agent with its own identity, memory and workspace. In Microsoft's words, it can monitor Teams channels, follow up on conversations, run recurring work and resume projects later without waiting for another prompt. It works across Teams, Outlook and documents.
When can you get it?
| Part | Status (as reported) |
|---|---|
| Home | Rolling out through Frontier first, broader availability later in 2026 |
| Code | Frontier first; a preview for Microsoft 365 Premium and Pro subscribers is planned later in 2026 |
| Autopilot | Private preview, no general availability date |
| Today dashboard | Private preview starting October 2026 |
Reports disagree slightly on timing: Tom's Hardware says the revamp is available now through Frontier, while The Next Web says Home and Code arrive "in the coming weeks". Both agree Frontier comes first.
How much does it cost?
A standard Copilot subscription covers basic Chat and Microsoft 365 integration, such as Copilot in Office, Teams and Outlook. According to coverage of Microsoft's announcement, Cowork, Code, Autopilot, long running agents and frontier models use usage based billing instead of a fixed price. Organizations get FinOps controls to set limits and watch spending.
Microsoft says the app supports frontier models including Astra and Fable, with an Auto mode that picks a model based on accuracy, speed and cost.
Other things announced
- Microsoft IQ, for giving agents business context
- A unified plugin registry managed by IT admins
- Tabbed web browsing, which is still in testing
Is it for you?
Tom's Hardware notes that the new Copilot may not be as exciting to individual developers and home users as some other AI platforms, because Microsoft's focus is business.
